survival, really. end of second quarter.

oh my.

from being sick the past three weeks or so, to not being motivated (as in writers block), to being behind, to stress, to tired, to ... AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. It is so so nice to be done with this quarter.

I don't know what my grades are for 2 of my 3 classes yet. (I could get lucky and get A-, but I'm guessing more like Bs or Cs). The only one I do know is the one I was confident about..

These spool of thread, yellow and pink, are very inspiring to me at the moment. Would make a nice color combo on a future piece of art. :)

dismay. a loss of two fine gentlemen.

Recently I watched "The West Wing" (some random episode on Bravo). One of my ALL. TIME. FAVORITE. SHOWS. *guh!* Aaron Sorkin has this tremendous ability to create/write television. (shhh!, we won't talk about Studio 60 ;-)). I was an addict for the first four seasons (aka Sorkin years) but couldn't watch the final three (or four?) without him being there. Anyway, I had set our tv recorder for "Requiem" (http://www.tvguide.com/roush/watched-Requiem-23561.aspx)... sure the opening credits / theme music always make me cry.. but with the teaser scenes before the credits, by the time it got to credits, I was SOBBING. I couldn't stop for a couple minutes. It has been almost 3 years and apparently I was not quite ready for that episode...

This (John Spencer's death on December 16, 2005) and Jerry Orbach's death (Detective Lennie Briscoe on "Law & Order" December 29, 2004) were two of the most devastating events of my life. I am all pop-culture and all that stuff (my favorite magazine besides Cloth Paper Scissors and World Literature Today? By far, Entertainment Weekly), but normally death and other life events don't really affect me... not the case there.

theme per day/jumpstart on blogging?

Inspired by Floresita's list:
Mixtape Monday
Tips & Tutorials Tuesday
Wardrobe Wednesday
Three Things Thursday
Flashback Friday
Stitchy Saturday
Sketchy Sunday
http://unafloresita.blogspot.com/2008/10/i-know-i-am-crazy-but-i-will-blog-every.html

I have this idea for my blogs...
Make, Do, Create Mondays -- actual make, do, create, not just talk. :)
Things Tuesdays -- wants, needs, items, things, stuff, materialistic....:)
Word Wednesdays -- text, type, font, words, phrases, languages, writing, letters, reading, talk, books, literature... :)
Thoughtful Thursdays -- thoughts on life/the world :)
Freedom Fridays -- for whatever I want to share.... :)
School Saturdays -- I do after all go to college and school is a tremendous part of my time, money, and energy. :)
Start Over Sundays -- reduce, reuse, recycle, redo, remake, etc. :)

Note this could be at any of blogs:
Caught Left Handed (general, catch-all, link storage) http://purpleglow7.blogspot.com/

the morning after: President Barack Obama

I am literately, like, spinning.

My mind, body, soul... in my head... just. WOW.

I spent so much time lately in the past 6 weeks or so... not to mention afternoons of weds, thurs, fri, (oct 30/31 nov 1) most of sun, mon, tues, weds (nov 4 through 7)... all for President Obama. :) I had so much fun getting out there promoting/supporting a man who has inspired me & so many others... I got to know my school better (like campus area) and meet lots of students (which isn't easy, since I am not an outgoing person). While I enjoyed every second I spent, this past week was awesome. Last night (830am-1015 pm) and today (1030am-4 pm, cleaning up)...*sigh* I couldn't ask for better cohorts. I am going to miss all of those from other states-California, New York, D.C., etc. who came here just to give their time, energy, and spirit.

I'm also super proud of my dad, because he spent time on monday & tuesday volunteeering (plus he got me stickers, a full sheet..and one that I hadn't seen/didn't have! ;))... today cleaning I got some gift cards, posters, buttons, stickers, etc. (not like I didn't already have a bunch of stuff). And yes, I'm a bit materialistic. Ah well.

I am now with a headache. It is hard to go back down to the ground. Reality has to strike back, and I keep feeling like I am aimlessly going around. I am lost and going "What am I suppose to do with my life now?" :)

How is it possible to expect that mankind will take advice when they will not so much as take warning. Jonathan Swift (1667-1745)

The burning of rebellious thoughts in the little breast, of internal hatred and opposition, could not long go on without slight whiffs of external smoke, such as mark the course of subterranean fire. Harriet Beecher Stowe (1811-1896)

A masterpiece is something said once and for all, stated, finished, so that it's there complete in the mind, if only at the back.
Virginia Woolf (1882-1941)

A rockin' nugget of writing I found in my yahoo emails from fall 2006: You see, Fassbinder is excellent at expressing himself, making each of his films “autobiographical” in terms of giving another side of him. This film is of course no exception. What I do, however, believe is distinct about this film is many elements of Merchant aren’t always noticeable unless you scrutinize carefully, and the individual nuances cumulate into a visual expression only of Fassbinder’s proportions.

I WANT Complete Embellishing!! :-)

Well, first off.. Kayte is one of my newest crushes. Her art, her blog, her..yeah.

I love how you get such a cool mix of techniques (sewing, embroidery, felting, applique, fabric printing and more) and a bunch of projects. So many books seem to focus on just one or the other (either intentionally or not) and with that, do one or both sections poorly. Dabbling in this and that is something I enjoy, and it will be great to learn new techniques and refine ones I do know.

The projects look like fun, sometimes as a relatively new beginner the difference between something I want to make vs. ability to make (or learn to make) can sometimes be different.

There are so many craft books out there these days... that in and of itself is pretty awesome. But to narrow down which ones to own/keep vs. just check out from the library vs. not even checking it out? I have to rely on others for advice, and I am pleased to see so many positive reviews (amazon, blogs, etc) online. :) This book is highly desirable to me, and I would be honored to win a copy of it. :)

Another bonus: Discovering the (New New) Etsy Team. :)

Sharing List #1 09-05-08

If you are in Portland or anywhere near there.. Kurt Halsey has a show at Moshi Moshi Sept 4-30.. spoiler alert for photos (or for those like me who can't get to the real show)

Mollie has the cutest embroidery patterns.. I own both of her Baking Sets, the Honey one, and got the "I've Got a Notion" when it was free. Her blog is always a mixture of cooking, family, life, and of course her beautiful designs/products. :) Next on my list is the Recyclers and the Cinema Snacks patterns... but I have a restraining order on myself right now since I've gotten so much stuff this summer and I need to use it/sell stuff on etsy/something.. :) I was honored to share her blog over at Pimp Stitch and plus I got a free Pimp Stitch pattern of my choice for PS choosing her blog for their blogroll. :)

Feeling Stitchy (http://www.feelingstitchy.com), Whip Up (http://whipup.net/), Craft (http://blog.craftzine.com/) are all places I need to spend more time.. and I could read and reread Elsie's blog (Flickr account, etsy shop, her scrapbook supplies in stores, etc) all day long... http://abeautifulmess.typepad.com/ ...
